Via de la Plata

Via de la Plata of the Camino de Santiago is the great road that links the peninsula from south to north in the western third.

The Camino Mozarab or Via de la Plata covers a distance of 721 kms. From Seville to Astorga, where it joins the Camino Frances (French way), crossing the provinces of Badajoz, Cáceres, Salamanca and Zamora.

The road runs on an ancient Roman road dated in 139 B.C., so we see many vestiges of the Roman splendor in the Iberian Peninsula: Bridges, theaters, walkway, arches, etc. many of them in use to this day.

Centuries later was used the Via de la Plata by Mozarabs as escape route to the  north of the peninsula fleeing the Arab domination.

After the Reconquest, it was used as the Camino de Santiago that pilgrims who made the journey from the south of the peninsula.

The tour starts at the Cathedral of Seville, along  streets Garcia Vinuesa and Jimios towards the Guadalquivir river, crossing the Barrio de Triana order to leave the city of Seville.

At this time in which many pilgrims are encouraged to do the Camino de Santiago through the Via de Plata, the Hotel Europa Sevilla is a direct witness of the first meters which begin this journey, being sometimes the starting point for many pilgrims .

From the Hotel Europa Sevilla wish all the pilgrims have a Good Way.
