The Virgin Carmen of Triana goes out today, Thursdayy, July 20, through the streets of her neighborhood and along the river Guadalquivir in a procession.
The Virgin Carmen, is the patron saint of sailors and all men of the sea commend themselves to her when they embark on the Guadalquivir River.
The paint that represents Virgen Carmen, has been already venerated for centuries in a chapel which was located in Plaza del Altozano until 1924 when this small temple was demolished by the enlargement of the road. It was in 1928 near the Ibero-American Exposition when the chapel of the Virgen Carmen, work of Aníbal González, was opened where the paint resides.
However, the sculpture of the Virgin Carmen was carved in 1998 by Jesus Iglesias Montero and she made her first procession in 2009.
Itinerary:
Departure from Parroquia de la O at 19.15 running by Castilla, Callejón Párroco Pedro Ramos Lagares and Paseo de Ntra. Sra. de la O to start the fluvial procession.
On the return it will transit by Paseo de Ntra. Sra. de la O, Calle Castilla, Calle Callao, Calle San Jorge, Plaza del Altozano, Capilla del Puente de Triana, Calle San Jacinto, Pagés del Corro, Calle Antillano Campos, Calle Castilla and entry at 00.30 hours.
The foreman is José González Luna and the musical accompaniment will be in charge of the music band «Ntra. Sra. de la Victoria» of the Cigarreras brotherhood.
