San Pedro penintente de los Venerables of Murillo

The canvas was painted by Murillo in 1675 in charge of Justino de Neve, which gave the painting to the Hospital de los Venerables in 1685. It occupied a privileged place in the main altarpiece of the Church. In 1810 it was seized by Marshal Soult who had it in his possession for years. Since then the work has been part of private collections until 2014, Focus – Abengoa acquired it.

Oil was painted on the stage of maturity of Murillo and is considered his masterpiece.

Enjoy this pictorial jewel in Seville!
